Academic Ableism, Disability Justice, and Inclusive Teaching Practices
This presentation explores the intersections of academic ableism, disability justice, and inclusive teaching practices in higher education. Drawing on disability studies frameworks and real-world examples, we will unpack how ableism manifests in classrooms, curricula, and institutional systems, often in ways that unintentionally marginalize disabled students. Participants will be invited to reflect on their own teaching practices and to consider disability justice as a guiding framework that moves beyond compliance toward equity, interdependence, and systemic change. Practical strategies for inclusive course design, assessment, and classroom engagement will be shared, equipping educators with tools to create more accessible and inclusive learning environments.
